Rancho Cucamonga presently hosts a population of 177,736 and is situated in San Bernardino County. The city was incorporated in 1977 and unified the surrounding communities of Etiwanda, Alta Loma and Cucamonga.
Most of space within Rancho Cucamonga is taken up by residential property. However, it is currently becoming a major hub for the logistic business due to its nearness to the Ontario International Airport, and two interstate highways and a large portion of existing land on the southern side of the city.
Seven square miles worth of land is dedicated to several large distribution centers and smaller manufacturing companies within the area around Milliken Avenue. Surrounding this area are numerous well-off office parks and several shopping strips, including the Terra Vista Town Center as well as Ontario Mills mall. Tamco Steel, which operates the only steel mini-mill in the state of California, is situated in the city as well. Junked appliances and cars are recycled to produce rebar in the mill.
There are some educational institutions within the city, including 2 university satellite campuses, 4 high schools, a community college, 24 elementary schools and 7 junior high schools. In a 30 minute drive an additional 22 private and public universities can be found.
There are some amenities that Rancho Cucamonga provides its people. For the sports enthusiast, the city provides a minor league baseball stadium, two challenging golf courses and an adult sports complex. There is also a performing arts center downtown, and 31 parks littered throughout the city.
Rancho Cucamonga has been ranked as among the safest cities in the state and has halved its crime rate since 1993. There are six tactically located fire stations within the city that keep fire and emergency response teams ready to serve always.
