Lift Truck Components in More Detail
There are hundreds of components which make up a lift truck. The forklifts key components comprise the frame of the truck, the engine components, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. Additionally, a forklift consists of a variety of attachments. All the parts which make up a forklift are all important since they work together to make the equipment's operation possible. The next paragraphs describe in detail several of the lift truck components.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits above the cab area and protects the machinery operator whilst he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck would hurt the driver or damage the controls in the cab. The overhead guard is integral to the frame assembly on several units.
The Mast - Mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame, the mast is the vertical forklift component made of interlocking rails. The mast allows the forks to move up and down whilst providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails can either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast can be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Lift Truck Carriage - the forks and different other types of attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is connected to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is connected by chains. To allow the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage can have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack that prevents a load from falling backwards when the carriage is lifted to its full height. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - There are numerous kinds of attachments that can be fixed directly to the lift truck's carriage. Forks are the most common type of attachment. What's more, there are rollers, rotators, L-shaped members, roll clamps, pole handlers and so forth. These different types of attachments are useful for moving different types of loads.
